Pain Medications in Mesothelioma Cancers
For patients suffering from mesothelioma cancers, the chronic pain treatment plan involves using pain medications in the following ways:
Oral Intake: taking medicines through the mouth in the form of pills, capsule or syrup.
Skin Patches: Transdermal skin patch that resembles a bandage is put on the skin surface. This patch gradually emits medicine into the body through the skin and may take from 2 to 3 days.
Injections: Medicine is injected into the body using the following methods:
- Injecting medicine right under the skin using a small needle, called subcutaneous injection
- Injecting medicine straight into the vein using a small needle, called Intravenous injection
- Injecting medicine into the fluid or the empty space present in the spinal cord, called intrathecal and epidural injections

Pumping Method: This is a self-control method in which the mesothelioma cancer patients may increase or decrease the quantity of pain medication taken through a computerized pump attached to a tube in the patient’s body. It may be activated when the patient presses a certain button and the specific amount of pain medication is delivered to the body.
